Face Masks: A Beginner’s Guide for Beautiful Skin

Face masks are hands down one of my favourite skincare products. In the world of skincare, face masks could be seen as the equivalent to a superfood smoothie bursting with essential nutrients. But this way, the skin is being fed any essential nutrients it may be lacking from the outside in.

How do they work?

Masks blanket the skin and deliver higher concentrations of active ingredients by driving the product deeply into the skin.

What do they do?

The right face mask for you can help to:

  • hydrate the skin
  • remove excess oil
  • pull out impurities
  • improve the appearance of pores
  • reduce inflammation, redness and acne.
  • some even help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Plus they give you a good excuse to pop the kettle on, put your feet up and take 10 minutes out just for yourself. And who doesn’t like the feeling of being pampered like you’re at a spa but from the comfort of your own home?

How often do you use them?

We all want the very best complexion we can have. In order to achieve that, a healthy skincare regimen including daily use and weekly use products is highly encouraged. Facemasks can be used 1-2x a week depending on your skin and skincare concerns, and there is a mask for every skin ailment.

Whether you’re looking for the unclogging power of clay, the nourishing qualities of honey or the ease of an overnight mask, we’ve got you covered here in Nourish.

To make things a little bit easier, I’ve compiled together a face mask guide with some of my favourite masks. Here I specify each mask and its individual benefits to help you choose the right one for your skin.
They’re all easy to use and they’re an excellent way to deliver nutrients to your skin and give you great results immediately.

Pai Dinner Out - clay face masks

It may seem counter-intuitive to apply clay or mud to your skin in order to cleanse it. Alas, the skin-enhancing benefits of mineral-rich clay/mud have been harnessed for beauty treatments all over the world for centuries. It may even be the oldest form of facial masks.

Benefits of Clay/Mud Masks

  • detoxing
  • unclogs pores
  • helps reduce and clear blemishes and blackheads
  • helps to pull impurities from the skin
  • absorb excess sebum
  • helps to balance oily complexions
  • helpful for oily, acne-prone skin
  • tighten Pores

Best For – Oily and acne-prone skin.

Use 1-2 times a week or whenever skin feels congested or clogged.

No. 2 – Trilogy Mineral Radiance Mask

I’m just going to put this out there. This is my absolute favourite clay mask. I became hooked on this mask after living in New Zealand and visiting the mud spas, and I still love this mask.

This product is great for:

  • All skin types
  • especially for oily skin around the T-Zone
  • for those who suffer from breakouts
  • dry and dehydrated skin

Formulated to be multi-purpose, how often you use this mask is dependent on both your skin type and main concerns.

If your skin tends to be oily, applying the mask weekly will ensure your skin benefits from the deep cleansing and purifying action.
Use on areas of your skin that tend to be oily or suffer from breakouts, like the T-zone, or on the cheeks, chin or temples.

If your skin is dry or dehydrated, use Mineral Radiance Mask once or twice a month.

Overnight masks are like the pinup posters for beauty sleep. Think of them as especially thick, luxurious moisturizers to help restore your skin while you sleep.
While you sleep, your skin cells work to repair damage from sun, pollution, and stress, making the night time a very important time for skincare.

With the colder climates, more central heating being used and possibly a flight or two for Christmas/New years holidays, facemasks are definitely a good go-to this season.
