Beetroot – the beautifully blushing pink vegetable bursting with sweet, earthy flavours. Perfect in salads, sandwiches, hummus, and even chocolate cake (notions!), beetroot isn’t just the sweet root vegetable that stains all it touches cerise pink. Beetroot is also a powerhouse of nutrients. Beetroot is without a doubt, a super food, and what better way to get these nutrients in than via an easily digested juice. This month, we are lucky enough to be offering 20% Off James White Beetroot Range (pink – valentine’s day – see what we did there?!)
So in the spirit of the month of looooove, I have put together my top 6 reasons for giving beetroot some lovin’ this February!
1. Power Up Your Workout!
Beetroot is super high in nitrates. All veggies contain this substance, but beetroot contains 20 times the amount of nitrates of other vegetables. Once in the body, nitrates convert into nitric oxide which increases blood flow and oxygenation in the body, getting our muscles moving and our lungs working. Studies found that those drinking beetroot juice immediately before exercise could workout for 16% longer!
2. Beetroot & Heart Health
Research shows that beetroot juice could help with lowering blood pressure. When drank, the nitrates in the juice can lower blood pressure immediately and can continue to do so for up to 24 hours post-consumption. Researchers found that patients who consumed beetroot juice daily for a month had lowered their systolic B.P by 4 to 5 points and softened their arterial structure, thus lowering the risk for blockages.
3. Climb Aboard the Detox Train
Beetroots are extremely high in antioxidants that can work as blood cleansers and detoxifiers. Betaine helps the liver cells to eliminate toxins, pectin is a dietary fibre that clears the toxins released by the liver to stop them being re-absorbed, and betalains are highly anti-inflammatory helping the body to speed up the process.
4. Reduces Inflammation
The betalains in beetroots are highly anti-inflammatory while betaine helps to protect cells, proteins and enzymes from oxidative stress caused by our environment. This oxidative stress can cause chronic inflammation within the body which can lead to a variety of different diseases.
5. Lower Blood Sugar
The soluble fibres found in the beetroot can help to balance blood sugars, lessening the amount of sugar spikes throughout the day and therefore keeping energy stable.
6. Improve Your Thinking
As discussed before, the nitrates in beetroot increase blood flow and oxygenation in the body. This in turn increases blood flow to the brain, especially in older people, keeping our thinking sharp.
James White beetroot range is on offer this month, making the entire range 20% off. James White produces a variety of products including regular beetroot juice, a concentrated shot of beetroot juice, and a concentrated shot of beetroot juice targeted towards athletic performance (this has gained a cult like following from our fitness fanatic customers!).
