Whether it’s all or none of the above, we could all do with some tips and tricks to deal with reducing stress, anxiety and fear, as well as some tips on supporting our immune systems in general, so that’s where this post is going.
We’ll be covering supplements and lifestyle practices to support both stress/anxiety reduction as well as for supporting the immune system.
For Part One, we’ll be covering the herbs and supplement side.
Check out Part Two where we’ll be covering supportive lifestyle tips.
Let’s get to it!
Helpful Herbs and Supplements for Reducing Stress, Anxiety and Fear

No. 1 – Passiflora
Aka passionflower is a fantastic herbal remedy for anyone feeling anxious, nervous, worried, under pressure or having trouble sleeping.
This herb is wonderful at helping to maintain a healthy response to stress, plus it’s a natural sedative, a nerve-calming agent and a sleep aid which is often able to help people relax, unwind and enjoy a well-deserved good night’s sleep.
No. 2 – Ashwagandha
A wonderful adaptogenic herb that has been traditionally used to help those suffering from stress and anxiety. For a more in-depth look into this amazing herb, read my previous blog ‘What’s the Scoop on: Ashwagandha’ here. Try adding the powder to one of these delicious and immune-supportive lattes.
No. 3 – Rhodiola
An amazing adaptogen which offers extraordinary support, helping our bodies adapt better to physical, mental and environmental stress, allowing us to adapt and respond to this stress instead of succumbing to it. For more info, read this blog on 6 Helpful Herbs you May Not Have Heard of But Should.
No. 4 – Reishi
Medicinal mushrooms like Reishi are powerful adaptogens that work with the body, helping it to adapt to the stresses of life and needs of each day, modulating the immune system and stress response along the way. Reishi is a wonderful herb to take to ease anxiety and support sleep. Read more here on ‘What’s the Scoop on: Reishi Mushroom’.
No. 5 – Bach Rescue Remedy
Rescue Remedy is a blend of five different Bach Flower Remedies. This mix was created by Dr Bach to deal with emergencies and crises, but can also help us to relax, get focused and get the needed calmness. It’s also excellent for those stressful days where we encounter stressful situations, hear bad news, experience a trauma of some kind, or even when we’re suffering from tension and general pressure.
It’s available in a tincture or a spray version.
No. 6 – Magnesium
A personal favourite of mine when it comes to managing stress is Magnesium. Magnesium helps the body transition into a restful state, eases tension and reduces our reaction to stressful stimuli. And since our stress reaction can actually be worsened due to a deficiency in magnesium, it only makes sense that keeping our levels tip-top is going to help us out in our time of need.
Magnesium also helps ease insomnia and provide a deeper night’s sleep as it allows the body and mind to wind down. This could be helpful if you’re having difficulties sleeping or not being able to relax.
Magnesium is easily absorbed through the skin which is why baths or sprays are my preferred method, however liquid formulas, powders and tablets work very well too.
Simply soak/spray or swallow your chosen method and let your body do the work.
No. 7 – Green Tea (Matcha especially)
Matcha green tea contains the amino acid L-theanine which helps to enhance mental focus, induce a balanced state of relaxed alertness, improve mood and concentration and even decrease anxiety and stress. To learn more about this, see ‘What’s the Scoop on: Matcha’.
