Try These Products To Make Your Bath Unbelievably Better

It often doesn’t take much to convince someone about the benefits and joys of taking a bath, but in case you’re not convinced, maybe this will help.
Bathing helps to:

  • Boost circulation
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Support lung health
  • Reduce pain (menstrual pain, joint pain, muscle pain)
  • Soothe the nervous system
  • Detox the body
  • Hydrate the skin
  • Improve sleep
  • Normalise body temperature

Interestingly it’s not just a hot bath that is beneficial. Both hot and cold water can have beneficial effects on the body.
If you’ve ever been to New Zealand or Iceland, you may have come across the natural hot springs. These are teeming with minerals that are amazing for your body. These pools are also fantastic at helping with the above-mentioned list of potential benefits.

On the flip side, taking ice baths or cold dips in the sea are also ways people like to help support their immune systems, improve their lung health, alleviate muscle strain and so on. Ice baths are not something to be taken lightly, however. If you’re interested, I highly recommend taking some time to look up the Wim Hof Method.

For this blog post, let’s focus on the more traditional leisurely soak in your bathtub to encourage optimal health of your mind and body.

No. 3 – Pain Reduction

BetterYou Magnesium Bath Flakes

Magnesium bath flakes, sometimes called magnesium bath salts, are a highly concentrated form of magnesium supplementation, designed to be added to a bath or footbath.

Soaking in a magnesium-rich bath helps promote relaxation and soothe tired and aching muscles. This is particularly helpful for anyone suffering from migraines, headaches, post-workout soreness or even menstrual pain. Supplementing daily with magnesium can be such a helpful trick for dealing with PMS and menstrual cramping.
If you suffer from Repetitive Strain Injury, then magnesium is also going to work well for you. Have a read over this blog to get a better understanding:

Allowing a full body exposure to a concentrated solution of magnesium chloride is a lovely gentle and effective method of supplementation of this marvellous mineral.

How to Use:

Add 250g Magnesium Flakes (roughly 2 cups) per bath. Lie back and relax for about 20 minutes or so. Feel free to add some pain-easing, calming essential oils like:
Peppermint| eucalyptus| rosemary| sage| Roman chamomile| lavender| ginger| frankincense| clary sage | lemongrass oil. Remember, a little goes a long way so only a couple of drops are necessary.

Add 150g Magnesium Flakes (roughly 1 cup) to approx. 5 litres of water, enough to cover your feet. Sit and relax for 20 minutes.

The Magnesium Tingle

When you initially use magnesium, you may experience a slight tingling sensation. This may indicate low magnesium levels and is the result of the high-speed absorption of magnesium through the pores. Don’t worry – this will pass with regular use.

Dr Hauschka sage purifying bath essence

Dr Hauschka Sage Purifying Bath Essence

Sage Purifying Bath Essence offers warm and calming properties and is especially beneficial after sport and physical exercise. Soak those sore muscles and aching joints in a sublime bath full of warming sage.

Fun Fact: Sage even has a deodorising effect! Sage foot baths revive tired, swollen feet. Additionally, when used regularly, it helps regulate perspiration and make the skin soft and smooth.

How to Use:

Add 1-3 capfuls of Sage Purifying Bath Essence into the stream of running water as the bathtub fills.

For foot baths, add 1-2 caps of Sage Bath to comfortably hot (about 40°C) water. Ideally, soak feet twice a week for 10 to 15 minutes each time.

Atlantic seaweed Bath

Carraig Fhada Seaweed Atlantic Seaweed Bath

There are many therapeutic benefits linked to seaweed bathing, and I go more into depth here in my blog post How to Take a Seaweed Bath and Why.

Here’s a few for now:

  • helps lower body stress
  • aids in the relief of skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, acne etc.
  • helps reduce muscle aches and pains
  • reduces joint stiffness (rheumatism and arthritis)
  • supports circulation
  • detoxifying

How to Use:

Immerse the seaweed (which is in a netted bag) for about 20 minutes in a container of very hot water. This allows the seaweed to hydrate completely and release its natural oils. Then, fill your bathtub with water (at whatever temperature you require) and add the contents of the container to your bathwater.
Gently squeeze the seaweed bag for maximum oil release, but do be careful. The centre of the seaweed may be quite hot still.

Feel free to use the seaweed net as a loofa to gently exfoliate your skin and enhance circulation a bit. And don’t worry if you notice an amber colour coming out. It’s natural and comes from the iodine content. It won’t stain your skin or your bath.
Once you’re finished bathing, don’t forget to keep your seaweed net safe. You may re-use the seaweed within 48 hours for a second bath.

Unlike with the bath salts and milks, I wouldn’t recommend adding any additions to your seaweed bath. Using your normal bath products such as body washes, shower gels or bubble bath could make the natural oils in the seaweed less effective.

A little word of warning. Yes. It is fairly smelly. Don’t expect a romantically fragrant bathroom experience. Be prepared for a more fishy seaweed smell. Or perhaps we could go as far as saying a smell that brings long walks on the beach and holiday smells to your bathroom.

weleda rosemary bath milk

No. 4 – Energy

Although not the first thing people think when they conjure up bath images, you can also bath to boost your energy.

Weleda Rosemary Bath Milk

Rosemary is a wonderful herb and one you’ll find commonly mentioned throughout the blog posts on here. It’s known to boost alertness, cognitive function and focus. It’s a cognitive stimulant and can even help improve memory. Plus, it boosts circulation, supports hair growth, supports the immune system and respiratory system.

Weleda’s rosemary bath milk carries the energetic scent of rosemary essential oil, charged with rays of Mediterranean sun-soaked up by the hardy, vigorous plant. For a lift in spirits and a boost for a tired body, hop in the bath with a few capfuls of this delightfully fragranced bath milk. It’s not only good for starting the day but also to refresh yourself from hard physical or mental work.

How to use:

Pour three to four capfuls into the bath just before stepping in, to get the full benefit as the fragrance rises in the steam.
