World Refill Day

World Refill Day is a global public awareness campaign to prevent plastic pollution and help people live with less waste. Choosing reusing over single use plastic this World Refill Day and every other day, saves energy, prevents pollution, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Limiting the amount of waste going to landfill means there is less damage to natural resources, and it also saves money for everybody involved so why wouldn’t we?

We are all leading busy, quick paced lives and it’s normal to feel like we can’t always do everything we want to do to help the environment. Here is what we can do:

  • Refill: Some refill shops around include: Pax Wholefoods and Eco Goods, Reuzi, AnniePooh, and Green Grocer. They are brilliant shops for refilling on all your essentials. Only buying amounts that you need, saves money and cuts down on food waste. Plus, nothing is wrapped or stored in plastic on the shelves. Do I have you yet?
  • Buy second-hand: vintage and second-hand stores have grown in popularity across Ireland. Some of our favourites include: SVP, Nine Crows, Tola Vintage, and Kilogarm. They all have some amazing bargains and items to cater for everybody. Higher quality means less time shopping which means more time to enjoy the summer weather or doing what you love.
  • Repair: get Granny’s old Roses tin out and repair something with a tear or hole, it will go much further than throwing it into the bin.
  • Avoid single-use plastics and reuse, reuse, reuse: use bamboo cutlery, and metal or bamboo straws because every little helps. Use cotton makeup remover pads, lunch boxes, beeswax film, reusable bags (they are all the rage) and get yourself a reusable water bottle. These will keep your water colder for longer too and usually have a handle so there’s really no excuse. Reusing materials and products means less rubbish, less pollution and less plastic getting into our oceans, resulting in fewer landfills. Win, win for all. You can find some of these reusable items in our stores.

In our Sandymount store you will find our fantastic new refill station where you can stock up on nuts, seeds, beans, and grains. Just ‘Weigh – fill – weigh – label – pay’ and know that you’re doing your part to cut down on waste and be more environmentally- friendly. Just bring your own container or use one of our paper bags. We have granola or muesli as well as cranberries and goji berries so you can stock up for your perfect overnight oats in one place.

Here and in our Wicklow Street store, you can refill all your Ecover and Lilly’s Eco Clean cleaning and household products. Just bring in your container and save money, reduce plastic, and reduce waste. That’s one less piece of plastic going to our bins and possibly ending up in a landfill or our waterways.

Both Ecover and Lilly’s Ecoclean have multiple refilling stations across Ireland if ours is not near you. Find your nearest and make it the norm. They also offer online refilling, just head to their websites for all the details:
